A March 26 hearing has been scheduled in Summit County Juvenile Court to determine whether a Barberton teenager should be tried as an adult in connection with last summer’s death of his 3-year-old half sister, Makayla Jones.D’Marques Jones, 16, is being held in the county’s juvenile detention center on Dan Street.Juvenile Judge Linda Tucci Teodosio is handling the case.After a four-month investigation by Barberton police detectives, Jones turned himself in Nov. 2. He was charged with juvenile counts of rape and murder.Makayla died June 22 at Akron Children’s Hospital.An autopsy by the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office determined she died of multiple “organ failure” from repeated sexual penetration.Juvenile prosecutors and defense attorney Scott A. Rilley met with Teodosio at the juvenile justice center Tuesday morning and set the hearing date. A determination will be made on whether there is probable cause to transfer the case to adult court.There were no proceedings in open court.D’Marques Jones began the school year as a sophomore at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.
